Apply for a Scholarship

The Second Chance Scholarship Foundation recognizes that without the staff at the various youth detention centres, many of the youth within such centres would not have a Second Chance.   As such, we have initiated the Outstanding Staff Second Chance Award.   The award will be granted to someone who has gone ‘above and beyond’ to assist a young person who is/has been incarcerated at their facility to truly get a second chance.    All scholarship recipients must agree to give back to the community by demonstrating a commitment to encouraging positive change by helping others in their efforts to do the same.  To this end, recipients must perform volunteer work within their community as a way of giving back to their community.
While scholarships are available for students attending any post-secondary institution in Ontario, specific Scholarships have been set up at the following post-secondary institutions:

Centennial College
Seneca College
Sheridan College
Humber College - Jamaal Magloire Second Chance Scholarship
Humber College - Gord Martineau Second Chance Scholarship
Humber College - Bill McMurtry Second Chance Scholarship
George Brown College
Loretta Yaskiel Second Chance Scholarship

Roy and Ria McMurtry Endowment Fund
On March 1, 2005, the Hon. Roy McMurtry (Chief Justice of Ontario as he then was) was recognized by the Law Foundation of Ontario with the Guthrie Award.   As such, the Roy and Ria McMurtry Endowment was established with the Chief Justice choosing Second Chance Scholarship Foundation to be the recipient of the endowment.   In addition to meeting the general selection criteria, applicants for the Roy and Ria McMurtry Endowment must be enrolled in a college or university program relating to legal education.  The endowment is granted annually by the Law Foundation of Ontario.

We are devoted to providing assistance to youth who have come in conflict with the law or are disadvantaged and at risk
who show strong potential and motivation for completing post-secondary school education.
